Member hellowpig Posted October 21, 2013 Member Report Share Posted October 21, 2013 Hi, I wonder if it's a bug, since I can't see a mesh and UV when I merge a unwraped obj. I can see the mesh in Paint tap, but not UV tap after merge. Here are steps what I did. 1. import a mesh-A what has unwrapped uv already. 2. merge the other mesh-B that also has unwrapped uv from maya. 3. I see these two meshes in Paint tap(window) and when I checked UV tap(window) in order to move mesh-B uv to mesh-A uv, mesh-B is invisible. can't even see mesh-B's uv. *. purpose of all this is to paint one texture on to two meshes. are there one step i missed like I supposed to assign a material to see the mesh-B in UV window? Contributor Solution Malo Posted October 22, 2013 Contributor Solution Report Share Posted October 22, 2013 Screen? 1. Start with Paint directly ove UVs 2. Merge Object 3. Switch to UV Room 4. Change UV Set 5. Mark all UVs 6. Move to first Uv Set 7 Switch to UV Set 1 8. Done Now Apply your UV set to save the changes Paint on it. Hope it helps. Member hellowpig Posted October 22, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted October 22, 2013 Thanks, Malo I know all these steps, but once I merge one object right after import first obj, I can't see merged obj in UV tap(window) It doesn't matter which one import first, what ever I merged, it is invisible in UV tap.. I can see merged obj in paint, sculpt, retopo, render taps but not in UV tap..weird.. here is screen shots. it seems like a bug..
Contributor Malo Posted October 22, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted October 22, 2013 I use V4.08 and it works. I dont think it is a bug. Are you sure your models are exported correctly?
Member hellowpig Posted October 22, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted October 22, 2013 I use v3.7. Yes, I'm sure obj are ok. the funny thing is whatever I merge after importing any obj, can't see merged model..
Carlosan
Its not a bug, Its how UVroom works in 3.7 Look at Upper left corner below textures/symmetry/hide menus You need to Choose an UV-set to see your object in UVroom http://3d-coat.com/wiki/index.php/6.0_UV_Tools
Contributor TimmyZDesign Posted October 23, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted October 23, 2013 What command (in which menu) are you using to merge the second object? What about the first? Maybe if you explain your process (step by step) then we can figure out which part you are doing wrong. I have had problems in the past with invisible objects, and I figured out a solution, but I'm not sure if the solution for the problem I had is the same solution for your problem... Hi Timmy, let me show what I did step by step. 1. I import obj-1 by Import > model per for pixel painting. (in option window, keep uv, unchecked everything as default, change res 2k), (I can see obj-1 in both paint window and UV window) 3. I merge obj-2 by Merge Object( same thing as before in option window) That's all I did and I couldn't see obj-2 in UV window but any other windows. Same thing happens when I change the order, importing obj-2 first(visible) and merged obj-1 is invisible. (this is what i"m saying obj has no problem, clean) what a weird.. Member hellowpig Posted October 23, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted October 23, 2013 the UVset names are correct ? have the obj materials assigned ? Sorry, I can't attach models. what do you mean /UVset names are correct/? is there a rule to make a UVset names? I tried to name either what I want and default when I see merge object window. Should I assign obj materials every time I merge obj in order to see in UV window?..I don't think so.. hm...
Carlosan
no defult... top... is ok material, i always assign a material by object before import it ----------------- you are using 3.7.08B im testing 3.7.18F
Contributor TimmyZDesign Posted October 23, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted October 23, 2013 I just tried this and it worked for me. 1. File import model for per pixel painting. The model appears in all rooms (tabs) except Voxels room. 2. File Merge Object. The new object appears next to the first one in all rooms except Voxels room. 3. UVs for both objects are editable. I am currently using 3D-Coat Version 4.0.06A(CUDA)(GL64) for Windows. There is a newer version available (with improved auto-retopo tools), but I have not had time to download and install it yet. I am guessing that perhaps your problem might have to do with assigning materials in an external app like Maya. Before importing my objects I assigned two different materials to them in Maya (both were blinns, but had different names). After importing, the two different objects show up in the Objects panel. The two different Materials show up in the Materials panel. The two different UV sets show up in the UV set drop down menu above the viewport on the upper left. Each UV set is visible in the UV preview window when I choose it from the drop down. Everything seems to be working correctly.
