Height-Based Brush

So I have been using 3D Coat and I love it. However, I am doing some detail on a model and I need a brush/tool that only sculpts up to a certain height, so if I go over places that are already raised it will not make a bump on them.
Also, what tool is used for little details like cracks etc?
Thanks,
Benton

I recommend starting with the Voxel "Extrude" brush - but experimentation is the way to find the one you need.
It also matters whether you need a crisp edge to that layer or a soft one. Try the Extrude brush with a soft-edged Alpha shape and then one with a crisp edge.
Little cracks and very fine detail I would reserve for tools found in the Paint Room (using Per Pixel painting or Micro Vertex painting). Try painting with Depth enabled, using the 3rd Alpha shape from the right (on the top row of Brush Alpha shapes).

Cracks, can be made in various ways, One is the way Phil described doing all your detail work in the paintroom
Listed below is for voxel and surface mode ways of creating cracks.
Creating your own alphas for cracks.
A material mask is another way, Located in the right side panel.
Using a strip brush with rotate along direction of brush stroke selected under the brush options panel. "You can create your own strip brush: based on an obj model"
Surface mode has two scratch brushes also but I would not know if they would meet your needs.
Surface mode is good for high detail work using the LC brushes as they have dynamic tessellation( localized detail) of the mesh.

It would be nice to see Freeze include cavity/height aware controls

Strip brush alphas will stay selected across different regular brush alphas you choose, It's worth a look see...

I had avoided the absolute brush for so long because sometimes it use to cause very bad explosions in the mesh. My brain has just forgotten all about it.
The absolute brush works very good now, I found out...
I did not mention the paint room as I thought he was more interested in voxel and surface mode at that time...
Sorry about Benton, as I depart, I'm wiping the egg on my face...

Not the only one with egg on face. I'm so used to thinking of what I use the brushes habitually for with regard sculpting tasks that I forget about what the absolute brush actually does :-) It's a great tool for an even surface relief to a set height and mostly I use it as the quick basis for clothing relief or creating the basis for head hair helmet relief.Sorry about Benton, as I depart, I'm wiping the egg on my face...
Extrude is nice though because it will raise the sculpted height whilst keeping existing details particularly when used with some of the e-panel shape modes when pressing the enter key.

Hi
To add height option to brushes: Mantis request open ![]()
http://3d-coat.com/m...iew.php?id=1153
Using V4_16 / win7_64
I hav done a surface sculpt over and object surface... a leaf like example.
But if i drag and drop the [S]layer over the STRIPES tab, nothing happens ![]()
Now back to my object in VOXELS mode
Whats im doing wrong
? -i think-
so i select a stripe brush and try to paint over a [V]Layer -a sphere-, nothing happens ![]()
extrude airbrush build... nothing happens ![]()
stamp- no stamp...nothing happens ![]()
Is there any tut about stripes uses/creation ? ![]()
