Member Onkelpoe Posted August 18, 2014 Member Report Share Posted August 18, 2014 hi there, I got some issues with heightmaps (from Word Machine). They are saved as 16-bit (TIff and PNG), but 3DC seems to only read the PNG file. When doing an "Image/Picture to surface" with a tiff as "bumpmap" - everything is just plain flat. When doing the same with a PNG, exact same settings, 100% bump, etc. it generats some terrain - but much too "jaggy". This kind of behavior is mainly seen, when generating terrain from a 8bit image. But I made sure, I got 16-bit images (tested in 2 other app, everything was smooth!) Please have a look at this...
Andrew Shpagin
Tiffs will be loaded correctly in 4.1.
Member Onkelpoe Posted August 22, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted August 22, 2014 .. will also test and report back on this one. It´s a cool thing, to have such a good support by the programmer himself
Member Onkelpoe Posted August 24, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted August 24, 2014 This one is not beeing solveds by .13 beta - it getting worse for me (crashes on TIff AND Png now!) In .12 beta, PNG worked at least (even with "terraced" import)

Member Onkelpoe Posted September 1, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) No, I downloaded and installed .13 beta a few days ago... edit: Wow, there is .14beta already (yesterday!) That´s fast iterating for just one main-programmer - respect! Ok, will test it this evening and report back (as always) Thanks for the heads-up Edited September 1, 2014 by Onkelpoe

Carlosan
contact support@3d-coat.com please ty 16Bit TIFF -NO floating- / 16Bit PNG works fine in my comp
Member Onkelpoe Posted September 2, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted September 2, 2014 Hmmm, I can not tell, if my TIFF is "float".. only thing I know, it opens in PS and Win standard image viewer 100% ok, is 2048 by 2048 and 16-bit. Other image was a .PNG (512x512, also 16-bit)... I set the "bump thickness" to 100% and I am using no "Top Texture", other settings just like in your screenshot... I sended the crash-log via email to support cheers!
Member Solution Onkelpoe Posted September 2, 2014 Author Member Solution Report Share Posted September 2, 2014 I can confirm, that it is indeed working - PNG and TIFF I did everything the same - except for the bump-thickness. This time I set it to 8 and tried 16, also - working ok. Guess "100" was a too high value, that causes the crash. Somewhere, I was suggested to use "100" (saw it on a screenshot over here: http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16544 ) - it worked without crashing, back in in beta.12 edit: see posting #3, it was by you, heheehe Cheers! /SOLVED - I guess... Carlosan
yup that test was done using a 512x512 terrain size... 100 at 2K is toooo much... but now a new option was added, to help at import stage
