Imagine you have a head and you put a seam along the middle to split the head. Now naturally you will end up with two uv islands for the face. It would now be nice to have a "mirror" function which will bring the two islands together (lay on top of each other) so you can paint only one half of the texture. This of course only works if both sides of the face are symmetrical. This is rather useful if you need to save texture space in games. Thomas P.
