Member Upon Infinity Posted December 22, 2013 Member Report Share Posted December 22, 2013 Hi, I'm having trouble exporting an .obj file with textures out of 3dcoat into another renderer. Normally, I get an .obj file, and .mtl file, and associated graphic files for textures. I don't know how to get the assicated (.png s?). I saw a tutorial on YT that had a pop-up at export, but I'm not getting that. What am I doing wrong?
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted December 22, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted December 22, 2013 Check the Textures menu for "Export".
Member Upon Infinity Posted December 23, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I still don't see the option. Either that, or I'm doing it wrong. In this YT video at the 12:30 mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29OWq1JuZdg he simply Exports Model and then a pop-up appears that will do it. Was this discontinued in future versions? Carlosan
Your sculpted model have a retopo and UV set, And you are exporting from paint room, right ?
Member Upon Infinity Posted December 23, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted December 23, 2013 No. Only the original shaders from sculpting. And yes, I was exporting from paint room. Although not much painting has been done to it. I'm used to using really basic modellers so this retopo and stuff is really new to me. In other programs, I could just throw a texture on and export. Can this not be done with 3d coat? Do I retopo, uv, and then export? Is there a tutorial for this, either on this site or YT?
Member Upon Infinity Posted December 23, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted December 23, 2013 Okay, I did eventually figure out how to export the UV's I didn't know you had to first import a saved file into the UV section of the program. Is it not possible to export 3D Coat's native Shaders? Some of them are quite good. Thank you for all the help so far.
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted December 23, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted December 23, 2013 The "native shaders" are exported ad vertex painted colors. Voxel surface mode allows vertex painting in the paint room. I've never done it so I can't give details.
Member Upon Infinity Posted December 23, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted December 23, 2013 Yes. I suppose I was naive to think I could just voxel sculpt something, shader it and export easily. It is a much more complicated program than I thought. Not necessarily a bad thing, just so much to learn.
