The way you setup your tablet

So I've had an Intuos 4 small sitting in my desk drawer for the past month, I plugged it in when I got it but it seemed like too much to take on at the time. I'm doing some finer detailing which sucks with a mouse and decided it was time to tackle getting used to it so I've gotten it out this evening. After a frustrating 40 minutes where it crashed my laptop, I updated the drivers and it stopped working so I had to uninstall and reinstall from CD it seems to be working again.

I was wondering how you all have your interface setup to use the tablet most efficiently?

Currently dragging on the tablet over clear area with no button depressed rotates the view. It would be nice to be able to convert this to pan by adding in the shift key on the keyboard (like I have setup with my mouse) however this seems to take my viewport camera to nearest side/ front/ back view annoyingly. Any tips for how I can change this?

Any other tips on using a tablet, keen to hear.

It seems from the little I've played with it it's a pleasure to use when navigating an object in the centre of your view. Often I have to pan quite a lot, which seems like a bit of a pain on a tablet..

On another note do you find yourself having to really shift your wrist to be able to select new elements around the edges of the scree? Brushes, voxtree etc?

Thanks

T

I can not tell you about the Intuos 4 small. On my Intuos 3 to pan I press the top button on the pen hovering the pen close to the tablet without touching it. Now I can pan my model as I move the pen. I can keep hovering and pan or now place my pen on the tablet to pan...

Under the Wacom settings, not in 3DCoat. I select the Pen's top button to simulate the middle mouse button. That is the button on my mouse that is setup to be used for panning in 3DCoat.

The reason I hover as not to accidentally start to make a stroke as I depress the button on the pen, If you got real steady hands here no problem, I am heavy handed from years of painting and construction. :moil:

I'm driving myself crazy trying to setup tablet navigation. Anyone mind relating to me their settings?

ie first pen button = ?

second pen button = ?

And what you use for your custom navigation inputs. I'm finding myself having to switch back and forth between pen and mouse just to be able to perform all operations and I want to smash something

EDIT - I reinstalled 3DC and am just learning to use the Alt-key for navigating around the mesh, with first pen button set to MMB, and second to RMB. It seems like this is the standard for most 3D softwares (Marmoset etc)
