Advanced Member ebitz Posted November 4, 2014 Advanced Member Report Share Posted November 4, 2014 I have a fairly good machine, i7 processor, 32 gb of ram and nvidia 560 card on linux. 4k maps on a mesh with normal map, color and ambient. Painting on the object in either normal, or color or specular, my FPS drops from 60 to 15. Using stamp stoke setting really becomes unusable at this point. Any suggestions? Working with version 4.1.11B. I realize the linux one is still waiting to be upgraded.
Contributor Malo Posted November 4, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted November 4, 2014 I know this problem. It was nearly impossible to paint on 4096 and above. But this problem is fixed since a few updates. You should update to the latest beta.
Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted November 4, 2014 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted November 4, 2014 I have similar PC specs, but on Windows, rather than Linux. 4k maps are no problem (unless you use a HUGE brush radius). If I test on 8k maps, then there is a fairly noticeable performance hit. Not sure what the issue might be. I do know that GTX x60's tend to have really small memory buses...256bit rather than the 384bit in the 570 and 580 This video shows 4k texture maps working pretty well in PPP:
Javis
Indeed, Malo is correct. It is fixed in a recent build. As soon as the Linux build is updated, give it a go.
