voxel sculpt ignored during bake...

I have a quite irritating problem at the moment. Whenever I try to bake a Voxel sculpt and merge it to the paint room, the mesh gets created, but the voxel sculpt seems to be ingored during the bake... no normal map, no diffuse map is created during the bake. Also, the baking time is much too fast, so it really looks like nothing is done in the background.

Now, the voxel sculpting works as normal, as is the retopo room. Voxel objects are clean, all voids filled, the retopo mesh is unwrapped. I don't see anything I could have done wrong.

I did create a mesh without a voxelobject, but a mesh object as reference some time ago, and never baked out any voxel object again until now. Maybe I changed some setting back then to make that work and never set it back. What could lead to such problems?

Then, there is some kind of preference xml file that can be deleted to set back 3DC to default values... where do I find this xml file?

What version of 3DC are you using?

Picture of your voxel object and layer....

Same in the retopo room / retopo mesh and group layer.

Your baking settings as well... including innner and outer settings.

Without having access to the file, hard to tell what is happening...

I don't think its the file, I create the simplest possible test file and was able to reproduce the problem (voxel cube with a smiley face carved into it)...

Sadly I already shut down my workstation, I will try to gather all the information tomorrow and post it here.

Thanks for the answer though.

And thanks for the reply and updated information. I like you am just a 3DC user, not paid by 3DC. I have been using 3DC since late 2007 so sometimes can help find the answer, not always but I give it my best shot...  I will await a more simple file you can post here or somewhere else to download and look at or pictures here at the forum...

Delete your MyDocs/3D Coat V4/Options.xml file (after closing the app first)...maybe even the Options_Windows.xml, too. If either of those get buggered up, somehow, you can get strange application behavior. I have noticed the Options_Windows.xml was the root cause of a UI glitch once.

If you have your UI laid out like you want it, you will want to save it (from the WINDOWS menu). Do so before deleting those files. Then, after opening, if necessary, you can restore the layout from the same WINDOWS Menu.

@ Digman: I highly appreciate you taking the time and effort to help me out here, really.

I reproduced the problem again, and documented it with images:

3DC Version I currently use... yes, it is quite old, though I am relucant to change the version while stillw orking on some longtime projects...

I am currently trying to get a new account for an upload service, as my former one seems to have died in the meantime. I will update this post as soon as I was able to upload something.

Did that, renamed both files (I guess renaming should be enough, right? At least history was gone after that, so must have worked)...

Problem is still there though. Any of the other xml files that I could/should delete?

If it wont works on your side, maybe on your install went something wrong.

Tested the file too. No problems baking. Malo also had no problems as shown in his pictures. I added some more information here to help as well.

1. When I opened the 3DC file your voxel model was hidden. Click on the eye icon in the voxtree tab to un-hide the voxel model. Nothing to bake if it is not visible.

2. In the Paint Room delete the former baked object and all layers except layer "0" before re-baking. This is required otherwise you will have baking problems.

3. Turn off "Show voxels" or Show Poly Objects in Scuplt Room. That function is located under the View Menu. The sculpted object in the sculpt room will cover over the baked object in the Paint room..

The naming convention has been changed to the new name in the newest versions of 3DC.

Picture shows the baked model in the paint room.

Did A complete re-install of the latest stable version of 3D Coat, but that didn't solve my problem.

About the installation, I installed the version of 3D coat I currently use like almost a year ago, has worked fine until a week ago. And seeing as a re-isntall of the same version didn't really solve the problem, what else could be corrupted?

When you un-installed 3DC did you manually remove the 3DC folder under Documents/settings... I do not know where windows 8 puts the 3DC folder... I at this time no longer use Windows. I know at one time that 3DC did not remove that folder when you un-installed.

You will have to re-register your serial number again by removing that folder.

When I reinstalled, a new directory was created as I installed 4.1.17 originally in a directory calle "...V4", and as I went with the default this time, it created the directory "...V4.1.17"...

So you say I should delete all 3DC Directories before reinstalling? I will give it a try tomorrow, I do not care too much about settings as I pretty much use the stock ones anyway.

Ah, I misunderstood what you tried to tell me. I was talking about the installation under program files, while you where talking about the files under the documents directory.

I now deleted ALL 3dc directories before re-installing, and behold: my problem is gone! So it seems some setting was the problem after all...

Thanks for all the help digman and Malo, its much appreciated!
