This is what im working on. Actually this is the first complete human I have ever tried to model but 3d-coat makes it so easy.

I had been reading alot of edger Edgar Rice Burroughs sci-fi books lately and decided to create one of the characters from the books John Carter, from "Princess of Mars". Still got a ways to go but thought I would post something

WOW! Really awesome sculpting!

I see, I must do layers...

Yea layers would be awesome !!!

The way I got the harness, Paints and boots on was instead of sculpting then completely in 3d-coat, I used the retopo tool to retopo where I wanted the objects then export as a raw mesh. I then added depth to them in carrara and then merged them back into 3d-coat and then sculpted some more. The ability to mask off an area and extrude that area would also be nice.

More updates

Now posed thanks to the new posing system. I was a bit skeptical of the new gizmo at first but its grown on me and I like it allot :D

The Radium Gun was created separately in 3d-coat then exported as obj and reimported. Same with Sword but most of the sword was modeled in Carrara 6 pro.

Great work!

What problems have you met with retopo? What caused tiredness?

Thanks Andrew

The retopo process went fairly smooth the tiredness was mainly due to the amount of time it took to finish retoping. I think the main reason it took so long was the fact that I posed the model first so I could not use any symmetry when retopoing.

A few things of note while retopoing..

1. In certain areas like the hands, shoulder armor and saber guard I tried hidding parts of the model but the problem I ran into was that the hiding of voxels is to aggressive and instead of hiding just the saber guard it hid parts of the hands as well.

2. For some reason the slice tool worked on certain areas and not on others, example would be the arms which I thought would be easy but the slice tool would not give a complete loop around. you would get and orange slice but it would be broken with green sections. Which of course would not work.

3. Lastly and this is a request :) I did most of my retopoing in Blender before 3d-coat. In blender I am able to scale and rotate edges by pressing s for scale and r for rotate. This would be very helpful instead of having to switch to the tweak brush. I think the best implementation for this would be in the select and operate tool. example would be you select an edge or group of edges then rotate or scale. Add this to the extrude as well so that you could extrude scale and rotate.

Anyway thanks for such a wonderful tool set 3d-coat is awesome. Ill keep posting the progress of this project.

Well coming to the end of a fun project.

Here is Dejah Thoris. Love interest of John Carter :)

The new quadrangulate feature rocks. I rarely animate so this feature was just what I was looking for.

Her she is in 3d-coat and then rendered with displacement in Carrara 7.

wow! cool scene. :) all charactters fit together.

I think you can finetune some stuff tough.

small things, like the alien boots could use a little more love ,Carter'scrotch area is lacking definition.

Just very small things.

it gots a great classical sci-fi look. :)
