Advanced Member polyxo Posted August 7, 2009 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 7, 2009 Thank you for these videos! I just watched one of them - about the Sketch tool. Looking at the example of the car-blueprint it should be easy to come up with a more usable result. Just a few brush strokes and colour adjustments in a bitmap-editor and the outline came out much more usable - maybe worth mentioning? Taros
I have a question for the function "edit projections in ext. editor". When I am painting in photoshop and switch back to 3DC, the projection is not synchronised automatically. 3DC don't realise my painting. I have to save the texture manually in photoshop first, after this the projection will be synchronised. Where I can set this, to say 3DC to do this automaticly? Javis
Hey Taros, I think that you actually do need to save the file first. Erm, what I meant by automatic is that you don't have to do any crazy importing of textures, just save and go back to 3DC, and it automatically applies the painting. Javis
polyxo, Yes, that is worth mentioning. I will probably put that as text in the FAQ for the tool as well. The tool is still not finalized yet so when I do another video it will have it too. I like to give a few examples so people know what to expect. Black and white = Good results. Grey = Bad results! Personally, I think it's just common sense when trying to work with something like a car, that you would want to go into Photoshop and "Fill" in everything inside the silhouette, and if something like the tires (for example), is going to be obscurred/hidden in one view, it's better to just remove it in Photoshop.I think it could work great for auto's...especially for game assets. Should be able to retopo low poly and then take it into your 3D app and tweak the shapes and chamfer/fillet/bevel all the sharp edges. Looks like a Car model could be done in 1/3 of the time it would normally take. I definitely plan to test this soon.
Javis
Yes definitely. I really think it would look great if the image was cleaned up. I look forward to seeing your tests Don, will you be sharing your progress? I am very curious to see how it goes!

Member Bo Atkinson Posted August 11, 2009 Member Report Share Posted August 11, 2009 Thanks to all Utube contributors. Amazingly great resource, thanks. I can hardly wait to focus closer (when time avails)..... One Question-- Are any of them done with 3dConexion devices? I'm trying to appreciate better which navigation methods are preferred by the more advanced users.

I did't realised in your video, that you have saved the texture projection in photoshop. You used a keyboard shortcut, right? Maybe I missed it. Ok, then all is ok. Javis
I think I did. In fact I most likely did! Sorry about that. I usually say what keys I press too, looks like I didn't do that in this particular video. But hey, the content is still good right?

I found them to be useful too...especially the wrap tool - I hadn't even noticed it was even in the menu! Of course now there are some cool new tools, you will need to release another video tutorial series showing how to integrate them into a workflow. Perhaps a muscled hero, built from the new curves tools and muscles?
