Hhhhhmmm. Imagine CUDA being recompiled + Surface mode brushes mirrored to Voxel mode. I'd sculpt there 95% of the time, because of how flexible and forgiving it is. And if the Paint Room could be CUDA acclerated (at least the sliders, FILL tool, and paint with Large brush radius')

This is why CUDA should be re-visited by Andrew. The CPU market has gone largely stagnant in the past 2-3yrs. The pace of performance improvements has slowed to a crawl, by Intel. Why? Cause they have practically no competition, now. AMD stated a few years ago that they were getting out of the High End/Enthusiast CPU market.

A lot has been done to simplify the compiling/recompiling process, including CUDA 6's Unified Memory. I really wish Andrew would take a few weeks/months to use the CUDA 6 toolkit to GPU accelerate sliders in the Paint Room, the Fill bucket tool (and also applying paint via a selection draw mode, like Freeform Lasso, Closed Spline, etc.). Hiding/Unhiding layers,  Painting with Large brush sizes, etc.

Also use CUDA for the Pose Tool (and especially with the "Conform Retopo Mesh" option enabled) and Move Tool. It should also be used for Auto Retopo, to speed up the calculation (often takes multiple attempts, so shaving a few minutes down to a matter of seconds could be HUGE. It could also keep the from having to decimate the object first...which might have a bearing on the quality of the result.

Andrew should hire a programmer to do nothing but clean up bugs while he devotes himself to creating dramatic revolutionary changes to his software like this.

Andrew is not a pedestrian thinker. He's a revolutionary thinker.

He needs to devote himself to what he does best.

To have someone clean up someone else bugs is nearly impossible. This is an old issue in the industry. I am working with programmers since over 20 years and can say: You can't hire someone especially to clean up other peoples bugs. In 90% of the situations, the new programmers started to replace the old code with their own instead of checking problems. The time for understanding the existing code and philosophy of somebody else takes too much effort.

The only solution is to share the existing work as much as possible. Andrew has not enough good coders at his disposal. This is the main reason for the problems. Maybe you already realised what happend, after Raul began to support Andrew. Imagine what would happen, if zwo or three more people would support the current two men main team. One for the paint room, one for Retopo etc. Whatever Andrew needs. But this is something only he can decide.

Just my two cent about this topic.

Best wishes

Chris
