Member mccabe86 Posted January 13, 2014 Member Report Share Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) Character I'm working on for a 15 Second short me and a few guys are working on. It's supposed to be 'a cowboy villain in a cartoony style'. First successful attempt at rendering inside 3D coat was pleasantly surprised. Any advice is more than welcome. Contributor Tony Nemo Posted January 13, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted January 13, 2014 Suitably villainous. A lower lip will add much.
Member mccabe86 Posted January 13, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted January 13, 2014 Suitably villainous. A lower lip will add much. Thanks you very much for your reply. Yea I included some edgeloops around the mouth area because I failed at sculpting in the lips so was going to attempt it in Maya. I can find tutorials on how to sculpt lips in Zbrush and that has helped me in the past but with this being much less anatomically correct I wasn't sure how to approach it. Do you know of any learning material that might help here?
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted January 14, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted January 14, 2014 Not really as pertaining to lower lips but I would suggest taking a stab at doing it yourself as you will learn a lot that way. Hide the mustache, show the cigar and have at it. You can do it on the model and still save a version for Maya.
Member mccabe86 Posted January 15, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted January 15, 2014 OK I've made some adjustments and wondered if I could get some opinions... The proportions of the body are intentionally off but i'd like to know if you guys think it works.
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted January 15, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted January 15, 2014 Consider making the hands and feet bigger.

Member DrKrieg Posted January 19, 2014 Member Report Share Posted January 19, 2014 Thanks! Any ideas how I could make it more sinister? I'd say the bigger and fluffier the tache the more jovial it would appear. Generally speaking, though whether or not that applies here I don't know. Eye brows will bring his expressions out more. When I think of sinister looking bandit/cowboys I'd say the smaller the gene pool the better. Nothing better than an inbred looking thug. Member mccabe86 Posted January 25, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted January 25, 2014 I like your cartoon style, just feel that his neck could be a little thin. I can see where you're coming from on the front view. That definitely wouldn't have occurred to me thank you! http://www.gurl.com/2012/06/04/disney-villains-science/ i can't find the exact article im thinking of, but this is a good start about making a character look sinister. [edit]: here is also a discussion i found: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=175612 Thanks for this. I'm currently reading a couple of books on character design and they go into this quite a bit. It's a bit late to start changing shapes but my next character will certainly have more thought put into it. What do you guys think of the latest render? He's currently sporting a healthier tan than he should be I'm still experiments with SSS Shaders for the first time. Also the white of the eye is quite dark I've still yet to work out why. Rendered with Mental Ray

Member mccabe86 Posted January 26, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted January 26, 2014 i think the pupils are too big I think you might be right. I'll try out some variations. The more I read about character design the more I want to change the shape of his face!
