Member Onkelpoe Posted September 22, 2014 Member Report Share Posted September 22, 2014 hello, I wonder, if there is a way to do something like a planet with/from a 16-bit heightmap (terrein from Word Machine or Terragen, Vue, etc) Maybe some function to project a heightmaps onto a dome or full sphere? "Displacing" the surface of a quad-ball? Has somebody already fouund out a workflow to do some planets (full or half dome)? Or is it not in the realm of 3DC? Cheers! Member Onkelpoe Posted September 22, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted September 22, 2014 hey carlosan, yes that is a starting point - but I ´d like to "project" the heightmap on a sphere, to get a 360deg planet "spherical heightfield"... Any ideas?

Member Onkelpoe Posted September 22, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted September 22, 2014 hmmm, nope I can not find the settings in your screenshot - seems I am missing some menus?! I want to displace a sphere with a heightfield.tif texture - so the stencil must wrap around the whole object...
Carlosan
You need to drop first the texture to stencils or stamps windows popup

Member Onkelpoe Posted September 23, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted September 23, 2014 ok, I missunderstood. I´ve found out how to load a stamp (loaded the heightmap, that I want to "sphere-project") - but what is the next step(s) ? Best Regards
Carlosan
open the model in Paint room for PPP and use Spherical Mapping.jpg when you press the stamp, a menu popup select Spherical Mapping and use normal paint mode to extrude. you can paint with normal map or paint with displacement * do you have the model and map to share ?
