Hello all you
https://paintstormstudio.com/index.html

I haven't seen this little gem advertised too much on other boards, but if you're into digital painting then I would give it a go. it's called Paintstorm Studio. It's like a cross between Painter/Manga Studio/Sai. The app has really good blending, a nice color wheel/mixer, a solid brush engine, and it's gpu accelerated. At the current price of 19 dollars, it's also very inexpensive. I can see this being a great addition to my workflow.

Enjoy!

Really amazing feature set, and apparently it's all made by one person too! Was just reading about it for the first time a few hours ago.

Really makes me hope someday we'll see a major update the the 3DCoat brush system too with 2D painting apps like this out there.

Programs like this one and Twistedbrush plus others as a digital artist, increase my desire also for 3DC to have a more powerful brush engine... I hope at sometime in the development schedule that Andrew plans on updating the 3DC brush engine to include at least some of the more modern features that are in 2D paint applications today.

Yes it does rotate the canvas.

I would especially love if 3dcoat had a blending color feature similar to Paintstorm Studio/Manga/Sai compared to the Photoshop-esque "layering" of colors. Having said that, I think that Paintstorm Studio is a fantastic program for digital painting. You just have to make sure that it works with your Nvidia or AMD graphics card. In fact, if there are artists who don't use a dedicated gpu, I would earnestly recommend that you invest in one.

Yes, you can open up jpgs, psds, pngs and bmps in Paintstorm Studio.

i find the paint felling very good, if the support is good surely I'll buy...

But the license being tied to my hardware, hmmm... i dont like it.

That's just a future headache when I upgrade my PC.

Rebelisimo, you're the developer right? If so I'd love to get in contact with you regarding some areas that would make the software a little easier for production use.

I purchased the software, it's super fun to use and it's just incredibly distinct visually compared to all the other painting software out there. Right now, it'd be hard for me to justify using for actual work because there's certain areas where it's kind of like taking the long way around. Right now, for all of my illustration work I use Manga Studio (CSP) as it just does so many things that photoshop falls short in. I still fall back on it from time to time for color management issues, and the ever important liquify, but I rarely use it outside of texture work.

If this software can catch up to CSP/MS5 in those couple areas, I'd probably switch over in a second. If it added a photoshop-like liquify on top of those things? I'd be in heaven.

Awesome piece of software though, super glad it got posted here otherwise I might not have ever seen it.

Hey b33nine

No I'm not the developer. This person is: http://masterteacher.deviantart.com/

My friend told me about the program, and I just noticed that there was literally no advertisements anywhere so I posted about it on cgtalk. I would send your suggestions to him, and I'm sure that he'll consider them. I use Manga Studio /Krita, and Paintstorm will be a great addition to my workflow. Agree on using Photoshop for color management, but other than that I stopped using it quite some time ago. No proper color blending, no line stabilization, and no proper color wheel really steered me away from it.

Hi guys, I hope I can find some time to ask your questions :)

Hot key for rotate canvas is ALT+SPACE

And other importand hotkeys is:

ALT+CTRL - Fast pick second color

SPACE+CTRL - Fast smooth zoom tool

ALT+SHIFT - Pick area color for bristle brush (each villus takes its own color from canvas)

F - Loads the main color of the brush while drawing

SPACE+ALT - Fast rotate canvas tool

SPACE+SHIFT - Fast preview (temporarily hides the panels and centralizes canvas)

SPACE+A - Fast layer selection tool

CTRL(on pannels) - Fast controler disable (hold CTRL and click on on the desired option)

Q - Swap tablet from region to fullscreen (for example, if you have small tablet you are likely to use a small area as in the picture below... This hotkey switches to fullscreen and back)

Hi Paintstorm (Sergey?),

Thanks for jumping onto the forums to discuss the software. Is there currently a way to drag brush resize? In Painter/MS5, you can hold alt+ctrl to drag the brush to the size you want, I believe, alt+right click in photoshop.

Are you open to suggestions for added features? I have some specific ideas if so.

That is one, super cool tool. I'll be trying this out later today. I've been looking for a good alternative to PS for painting/sketching/concepting. This looks like a shoe in. :)

Thank you Sergey!

Javis - you should check ClipStudioPaint. I has less brushes than PaintStrom, but  i has filters (blur, sharpen, gradient etc), clipping masks, adjustment layers, ability to move multiple layers at once. Basically it is way more  mature software than PaintStorm

Manga Studio 5 and Clip Studio Paint are the exact same program. Clip studio Paint is developed by Japanese company Celsys and renamed to Manga Studio 5 by company Smith Micro. On the purchase web page of the Manga Studio, Clip Studio Paint is actually offered for sale as digital version of Manga Studio 5.

Manga Studio 4EX is the English version of Celsys' Comicstudio 4 Pro.

MANGA STUDIO 5 is a package version of CLIP STUDIO PAINT English version and is sold by our partner, Smith Micro Software, Inc.
We continue developing MANGA STUDIO package version.

CLIP STUDIO PAINT is the download version of MANGA STUDIO 5.
There is no difference in product to each other.
The only difference is how they are distributed, package or download.
If you want the download version, purchase CLIP STUDIO PAINT from CELSYS.
For the package version, MANGA STUDIO from Smith Micro.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

Best regards,

CELSYS Inc.

Drag brush resize will be avalible at the next release, which will be released any day now. We will be glad to any suggestions, but better send it to Info@paintstormstudio.com

looks amazing, but my wacom intuos ( not pro) doesnt work with it. it moves the brush circle around without the cursor, and doesnt paint anything. works fine with mouse though.

It's the perfect time to break up with Photoshop Javis :). It doesn't have to be forever, but it's good to try new things. In my humble opinion, painting with Paintstorm is just a lot more fun than Photoshop. I noticed that Photoshop always needed extra plug-ins like Painter's Wheel and Lazy Nezumi, and even then it doesn't have nice color blending.

nope, didnt help playing with gradients, the problem is the mouse inside the program doesnt follow the wacom pen. it gets separated. i cant even click on any of the buttons with the wacom pen. they highlight, but no clicks get registered. Also my pointer is stuck in the app, unless i use the mouse to get out of it, or alt tab.

Thanks guys. I'll try them all out! That said, some of the features of Paintstorm really stand out at me, like auto perspective painting. Cheers!

Try ALT+Tabbing from and then back to Paintstorm. It might be that nasty wacom bug that plagues every application.

Clipstudio, pretty much can't be beat for linear painting and design line work. But it's brush system, has some major limitations when it comes to some creative painting styles. For example one major gripe I have when trying to do clean values is that, when I have the options, "Mix Brush Tips with Darkeness" on, if you try to make your brush soft, you'll get gaps between every step. Paintstorms is beastly in the small areas were Clipstudio/Manga Studios is weak, why not use both.

It's important to note Paintstorm was created by a good artist and from the moment you change your brush size, you'll understand the major difference of when a artist creates his own software.

Do yourself a favor and at the very least watch the trailer.
