Advanced Member 3DCNC Posted October 14, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted October 14, 2010 I think that applink between Rhino and 3Dcoat could be very interesting. http://www.rhino3d.com/ Using nurbs to draw precise shapes and 3D Coat to deform and reshape. Especially for customers in the Product,Architecture and CNC/CAD business. Also tools like T-Splines for Rhino add more possibilities especially with auto retopography in 3D Coat. T-Splines can covert quad meshes to nurbs surfaces!!!!. http://www.tsplines.com/ So design refinement can be achieved by moving models between packages. I also think Moi could be a future contender but it lacks some functionality in this version. It supports the 3dm file format for Rhino. In fact you can copy and paste a model from Moi into Rhino and visa versa. http://moi3d.com/ Rhino Supports many renderers at the moment including Octane,Maxwell
Advanced Member Digital777 Posted October 14, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted October 14, 2010 For 3dm i noticed this on the Rhino site - http://www.opennurbs.org The openNURBS Toolkit consists of the source code for a library that reads and writes .3DM files used by Rhino and over 250 other applications. In addition, the toolkit provides NURBS evaluation and other simple geometry tools. So it's more of the file format but if that was added i am guessing it would make a app link much simpler as well as being useful also. Advanced Member Digital777 Posted October 14, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted October 14, 2010 Yeah your right, actually i just remembered that it was listed in a thread in the SDK forum in a post about app links. Andrew says - In general we have in pipeline Max, Maya, LW, Blender, Houdini, XSI, C4D, ZBrush, Rhino, Messiah, list may be expanded. Advanced Member polyxo Posted February 18, 2012 Advanced Member Report Share Posted February 18, 2012 Is this still being developed? Í have a early Prototype of this on my machine but unfortunately the Programmer started working in another Industry and had no more time to finish the Plugin. I'll see that I post what's already available later today. It does not yet allow proper Bidirectionality but one can at least move stuff quickly from Rhino to 3DC. Next week I'll meet another Guy who might be willing to finish this for Rhino 5 using Rhino-Common.
Member nart Posted February 26, 2012 Member Report Share Posted February 26, 2012 Ok thanks polyxo. If no one was working on it I was going to give it a try using V5's python but now I'll wait a bit.

Advanced Member bisenberger Posted August 24, 2012 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 24, 2012 I'm definitely after RhinoApplink - thx to it I may be able to fit 3d Coat into my workshop's workflow A Rhino Applink would be nice, but in the meantime it is easy to export meshes from Rhino for import into 3D Coat. http://3d-coat.com/f...indpost&p=79352
Member Przemas Posted August 25, 2012 Member Report Share Posted August 25, 2012 @bisenberger: thx for the tip . But got to admit I'm pretty aware of that. For me it's not an option because of the reason I need it for. Check this topic. I'm looking for a combo that would allow me to make complex manufacturable models easily (more or less). Until one of the sculpting apps (3d Coat / Zbrush / etc) implements draft angle analysis (or CAD like Rhino, with draft analysis, adds mesh modelling features) I'm looking for a way to quickly switch between two as a temporary solution. Importing/Exporting/Saving/Opening takes too much time and is a real pain.
New Member Roland Posted July 29, 2013 New Member Report Share Posted July 29, 2013 Dear Andrew and All concerned of 3Dcoat, McNeel of Rhino 3D is interested in working with 3Dcoat to make an applink from Rhino to 3Dcoat. If possible what most of us Rhino users are looking for is direct Voxels to nurbs without meshing since we can already use .obj format. A company called uformia already does Voxels inside of Rhino so hopefully it should be possible. Ideally we who use Rhino would like; Export of our nurbs format to 3dcoat file format without meshing Inport of 3dcoat Voxels direct to Nurbs. Is it possible we who use Rhino and love 3Dcoat are hoping it us possible? Contacts at Rhino: brian.james@mcneel.com Brian James is one of the people at McNeel interested in 3dcoat import export. http://discourse.mcneel.com/ look for the topic 3Dcoat to Rhino. Also Rhino offers a developers kit to help exchange of your file format to .3dm rhino format Thanks, Sincerely, Roland Montijo
