Am I ever happy; Siggraph 2014 is going to be in Vancouver BC this August

Last time in 2011 I went on just one day and saw all the exhibits. I'm thinking I should spend a bit of money and go and see the entire event over the whole week this time.

Here's me at the AMD booth in 2011 trying to win a FirePro in a Modo space ship modelling contest. That's me second row from the top on the left in a green shirt.

If only I'd known I would have practiced my modeling in Modo.

Andrew should get a booth there and I'll give sales demos for him. I bet you I could sell over a hundred copies of 3d coat in 5 days working there.

3d Coat needs a higher profile. This is the best place to do that. I live here. I could do it for free. (or a 3d coat t shirt!)

Nice. I went to Siggraph only once back in 2010 sponsored by the company. Great experience. I was tempted to submit my resume to Lucas or Double negative just to see if I can pass their screening and if I had enough skills. But I figured my company offers more diverse projects that would make me do more generalist work than specialized work with a big company. Want to go again but its too expensive even for the basic ticket.

Thanks for propose!

We will consider participation. It is under question because our 2010 participation was a bit expensive, but not so productive.

Anyway, knowing your propose is a big plus. Without local support it is a bit hard to decide to get there.

Glad to hear it. All you need is the smallest booth and maybe ship over some kind of big graphics or we can get one done by a local sign artist. I'll even haul my own computer down there every day so you won't even have to rent one, though you might want to rent some kind of big monitor for display purposes. I've only got a 24" monitor and a 21" monitor.

I'd be willing to volunteer to help as well. Not for the entire time of course, but I could put in several hours each day, doing demos, passing out brochures, etc. I will be flying in from Albuquerque (probably with a couple of other artists), so I won't be able to bring much equipment. It will be my first time going to SIGGRAPH!

And I totally want a 3D-Coat T-Shirt! We should make a cool design and have them printed on quality shirts that last. Maybe green to match the logo? I need XXL though, because I'm 6 foot 3 inches and 250 pounds.

Definitely there needs to be a black cotton (Haynes Beefy T from 20 below http://www.20below.net/Anvil-Tees.html  you can buy the best tshirts in bulk there for $2.80 a piece and sell them for $20) with the green logo 5_logo_3dc.png sold in the 3d coat online store.

They had some made up at Siggraph 2010, so I would think there would be a batch made next year, if there was a Pilgway booth. Maybe something like this...

Sorry, plans have changed and I will not attend Siggraph this year, so I won't be able to help out at the 3D-Coat booth (if there is one at all this year). But somebody should still get the T-shirts made and wear them at Siggraph...maybe some conversations could get started that way...

different idea but same spirit.

how about a 3dcoat users metting with Andrew staff presence .

in a cheap hotel, somewhere around world,in low price season, kind of reserving rooms enough and food included and and a room for hardware?*?

i could suggest portugal,for example.

I think there are more effective ways of accomplishing this nowadays... world wide webcasts a couple times a year with top users doing demos on the latest builds and newest tools and question and answer would be a much more effective marketing and even development tool for  3d coat.

Yeah, me and a friend were recently discussing Lightwave's future and we both wondered if they would even have a booth at Siggraph, this year....much less have a major release to reveal. I think a more economical means for them would be to hold the same kind of demonstration process right in their own studio/building, in the LA area, and broadcast live during Siggraph. Might be good if Pilgway's webmaster was able to setup a web-conference, with live demos and Q&A, like you mentioned...during Siggraph.

I discussed this briefly with Andrew by PM some months ago and he confirmed that he will not be having a booth at Siggraph this year as it just doesn't produce a return in increased sales to justify the expense and work.

But I'm going to be there!

I'm going to be there too, for the full event.  Let me know if you want to catch up :)  I've never been to Siggraph so I'll be absorbing as much as possible - or if you have any advice what to see when.    Wish Pilgway could be there and I'd have helped too (only recently came here so missed this thread from early in the year).
