Awesome. Since we do have some masking options already, albeit not like photoshop, my vote is for Axial symmetry.

3D-Coat already has a very nice mask system for 2D painting, because you can are link mask layers and not hierarchial like in photoshop. I see not much reasons to change this. It is unique at the moment. Please don't change them.

Axial symmetry: Do your mean radial symmetry? -> http://3d-coat.com/mantis/view.php?id=50

For the 3D rooms or the paint tab? What is meant here?

Voted for layer masks. One step closer to being able to jump back and forth seamlessly between 3DC and PS.

If people still want mask linking system to exist along side the PS-style one, it should create regular masks for all linked layers on PSD export so there's at least some interoperability with other paint apps when using the old method.

Since we already have a kind of Axial Symmetry by means of the "Axial" tool, whatever new feature is added that behaves more like Zbrush's "Radial Symmetry" setting - should also be titled "Radial" something - and probably just appear as a checkbox in the existing "Symmetry" dialog or Panel, with options for the axis of operation.

I wouldn't worry about proprietary use of the term "Radial" - because it cannot be a proprietary term or function - only a general one.  The concept and application of this function cannot be patented or copyrighted.

At least, I don't think so.

Radial symmetry.

Been waiting 4 years for it and would love to see it finally in and working across all rooms.
Agree with Taros that layer masking is already possible, although I do agree that PS-interoperability
and duplicate functionality would be the next feature to add after Radial symmetry.

*edit*  I should add that being able to pick a custom "point" for where radial symmetry is used would
be an ideal capability...but happy to just get basic radial symmetry into 3DCoat! ;)

symmetry features are unfortunately one of the most ignored  things in 3d art  as  a fractal artist I play with all kinds of symmetry in the 2d plain   I would think 3d programs would have every kind of symmetry imaginable  but hay that's what feature requests  and voting is for right guys

Better a horse race than naumachia:

Perhaps the most spectacular form of combat was the naumachia, the sea fight. This would involve flooding the arena, or simply moving the show to a lake.
The first man to hold a naumachia appears to have been Julius Caesar, who went so far as to have an artificial lake created in order to have two fleets fight each other in a naval battle. For this no fewer than 10'000 oarsmen and 1000 marines were part of the show which was to reenact a battle between Phoenician and Egyptian forces.
The famous Battle of Salamis (480 BC) between the Athenian and the Persian fleets proved very popular and hence was recreated several times in the first century AD.
The greatest naumachia event ever was held under in AD 52 in celebration of the completion of a great construction project (a tunnel to carry water from Lake Fucine to the river Liris which took 11 years to build). 19'000 fighters met on two fleets of galleys on Lake Fucine. The battle was not fought to annihilation of one side, although considerable losses occurred on either side. But the emperor judged both sides had fought bravely and so the battle could cease. source:http://www.roman-empire.net/society/soc-games.html

Ok, seems symmerty won.

I will do it first, then - layers masks.

Andrew you are one of the coolest people I ever met a model of true democracy a man of the people  I admire the way you allow users to help build your program I think this is one of the greatest business models known to man

I had a copy of z brush that I bought before you had transparency fixed but the did not really have transparency it was kind of a lie it was fake  also there rigid polygon system crashed a lot even on my twelve core 24 GB ram beast I nicknamed Bessy the buffalo soldier (from the song) also zbrush claimed to have radial symmetry and I bought it before i tried it out  only to find out it only had the spiral type radial symmetry and not the other kind that is also reflected I will not be updating zbrush It is stupid in my opinion to do so. if I want to play with polygons I will use blender like I always have and for voxels surface mode and re-topology there's the amazing one and only magical 3d-coat
