Thinking About Purchasing

I downloaded the trial version of 3D Coat a while back, and I'm impressed, especially with the voxel sculpting and retopology tools. I had a few questions at least one of which I couldn't find an answer to after searching so I thought I'd post them here.

1) What costs are associated with upgrading? I noticed on this site that an upgrade from V2 to V3 is $60. Is there any charge for point releases (such as 3.2 to 3.3)?

2) Does 3D Coat employ any form of DRM other than the occasional "phone home" and does 3D Coat ever require the user to connect to the net (for example shutting down if you haven't logged in in a while)? One of my major reasons for migrating to Linux is to keep my system free from excessive DRM (malware).

3) Does Pilgway expect to continue supporting Linux throughout the life of the application?

4) Does 3D Coat tend to work well across different distributions? My most used distros are Arch Linux 64-bit and Ubuntu 32/64-bit. Should I anticipate any problems?

Sorry if these issues have all been addressed elsewhere, and thanks for your time!

The upgrades prices are only for the major releases, like the next one will be for 4.x, Unless Andrew changes something, but I don't see that happening. The upgrades are cheap because you're only paying for the new features like when 3.0 came out you were basically paying for the voxel features with the upgrade.

There's no time when it is forced to go online this is great if you have a laptop or another computer that doesn't go online very often or at all.

3) Does Pilgway expect to continue supporting Linux throughout the life of the application?

Andrew would have to answer that one.

4) Does 3D Coat tend to work well across different distributions? My most used distros are Arch Linux 64-bit and Ubuntu 32/64-bit. Should I anticipate any problems?

I can only vouch for Vista x64 personally (it works great), but I have to admit some of the Linux users have been blown away, saying it works better than the other platforms.

Yes.

It works well under Ubuntu, but there was problems with latest NVidia drivers (bug in drivers that should be fixed), so need to use previous version of drivers until it will be fixed.
