Reputable Contributor digman Posted January 13, 2015 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted January 13, 2015 (edited) I thought I make a post concerning creation of PBR Materials. Add your own questions as well... My question is: Some materials use the AO map and some do not. When building a material what channel / or Channel in the PBR panel or combination of layers and channels will make the material use the AO map. I did some test and it appears it is related to multiple layers and setting the "conditions channels" if AO is used or not but really I have no idea for sure how it works to be able to create materials with solid knowledge. You know the above when you remove your AO map and click on a default material and it tells you it needs an AO map. Some default materials need it and some default materials do not need the AO map. If you know for sure how it works, I am all ears... Edited January 13, 2015 by digman
Contributor Malo Posted January 13, 2015 Contributor Report Share Posted January 13, 2015 (edited) It depends on the More on Lit and More in Shadow Option for the Contition Mask. If one of the options is used in you Material, you need an AO map. Maybe there are more options that needs an AOmap. I dont have tested every option in the Editor. The tool tip when hovered over More on Lit and More in Shadow tells you that the AO is needed. The other options do not say the AO is needed or least no tool tip pops up.
