I just wonder if there is the way to sculpt in surface mode using painted color (vertex) as a mask?

merge an object in as surface mode with little high res. Switch to paint tab and paint some black and white color on the object. Switch back to voxel mode. Now use extude tool paint on top of color part. The tool effect on the mesh regardless the color underneath.

Is there any way to extrude the the surface on the white or black part only?

An other word, using the painted color as a mask to sculpt the model in surface mode.

Thanks for your help

You can use the freeze brush in surface mode or this way also:

Paint your mask design in the paintroom using any color while in surface mode. Do not paint on layer "0". Create one layer above it.

Under the freeze menu in the paintroom, select "Freeze Painted Pixels"

Turn off the layer that has the color, it is not needed now.

If you need to invert your mask while in surface mode use Ctrl + Shift + i keys

Ctrl + D clears your mask...

Of couse you do not get both inversion and extrusion as if it was a white and black mask but you can do one and then do the other.

To have a white and black mask you would have to use a mask material under the material's panel but that is not painted on the object.

I like using the painting method in the paintroom versus the freeze in the surface mode. Since I paint a lot of 2D it just feels more natural to me and seems to flow better as it would if I was painting a 2D design. I create the design and then freeze the pixels for the mask.

Both ways work well, just a choice of workflows...

this is not what i was looking for. its just a way to freeze the painted layer. I was looking for the way to mask out the black or white color on the painted layer.

I wish there is a similar way like "presure effect" in paint mode (more on bright, more on cavity, less on bright or less on cavity ect..)

Yes, I know it is not what you wanted but it is as close as you can get for now other than using a material mask. I would suggest adding your request to the feature request section of the forum. If I did not make it clear the freeze is respected back in the voxel room in surface mode for sculpting...
