Member douglasrthomson Posted September 27, 2014 Member Report Share Posted September 27, 2014 (edited) I have a problem with this company. I purchased this software when they had an offer on a few years back but when I upgraded my MacOS to Lion (or was it Snow Leopard, I forget which) the software ceased to work. If you're running a Mac, this software doesn't work - however they'll happily sell you a copy of the software for Mac. If you download the demo for Mac, it doesn't run. Have a look at the Forum here http://www.projectmessiah.com/x6/community.html Maybe things will improve but I think they're less than honest in their marketing. Just my two pence worth. Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted September 27, 2014 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted September 27, 2014 Yeah, it's a pretty powerful tookit....just lousy management of the software, itself. The owner is a literal Hermit to the community. He could at least pop out of his cave a few times a year and mention what they are working on and address a few concerns/issues (like bugs, etc.). He could also create some of his own tutorials and post them on Youtube/Vimeo once in a while. But he can't be bothered with this kind of thing and resorts to snake oil sales pitches with nothing to show the user what they would be getting. I've never seen any software managed so poorly. With that said, I do hope a good company takes over and handles it properly. To do so, I'd remove Fori from any business-related decisions, completely, and if he is going to be the one doing the development work, I'd insist he work in the office of the company that is taking over. It seems he has treated the software as a part time hobby the past 4-5yrs, and that is no way to run things.

Advanced Member L'Ancien Regime Posted September 27, 2014 Advanced Member Report Share Posted September 27, 2014 (edited) Good they're not going into partnership. Andrew and 3d Coat deserve far far better than this. Side Effects/Houdini should buy 3d Coat...and boost up all the modeling tools for polygonal modeling the way Zbrush R4.7 does Then Houdini would have a complete modeling suit (not just parametric modeling) and Andrew's voxels would be tied in with the most incredible voxel engine there is.. Advanced Member popwfx Posted September 28, 2014 Advanced Member Report Share Posted September 28, 2014 I got that email too, but I got fooled a while back on their blatant cash grab for that deal they had going a couple years ago. But despite its previous good uses, Messiah just seems like abandonware to me and this email sounds like another fishy cash grab. I've stopped using it ages ago and don't see it's benefit as it doesn't seem like any decent attention is given to the software or their service. Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted September 28, 2014 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted September 28, 2014 After some further thought, I'm convinced this is just another used-car sales pitch (cash grab) for that failed 3D TV crowd-sourcing campaign. The e-mail mentioned this endeavor was in the works for some time. Fori is supposedly part owner of that 3D TV "company," so there is that. Then he has tried to re-fry those beans before, trying to sell current license-holders on upgrades that he wouldn't tell them what was in it or even when it was expected. Recently, he tried to sell "Subscriptions" to current license holders. The user gets nothing, but just snake-oil promises of "future savings." The common denominator here is he's trying to shake down the person who has already bought into his gimmicks in the past. There is nothing to see, here, I'm afraid. I don't know why he doesn't just do the things vendors are supposed to do, to help their software grow. Innovate. Communicate. Demonstrate. Carlosan
Time, time ago... after Titanic development (LW)... Fori was one of 20 founders of the visual effects company Station X Studios. Some ex Digital Domain people -the "Planet X" team-... some from Newtek quote: They had great new visions to improve character animation in Lightwave, but NewTek wasn't very open to that. So they went to SXS to develop there dreams. And that's where Lyle was added to the team to develop this new dream tool later known as Project Messiah. Source Fori was name president of SXS source And then SXS was acquired by Sriven source Last news Fori and another dude are trying to kickstart this new glassless 3d monitor technology -using Messiah as base- source
Advanced Member manticor Posted September 29, 2014 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted September 29, 2014 Im thinking that the other company might be the Foundry. They are working on a non linear animation mixer for modo 901 ....maybe they are thinking ...why bother writing one when they can just buy messiah. Messiah was originally a tightly integrated lightwave plugin and modo is written by the guys who originally wrote Lightwave... But then again it might be a snake oil scam knowing fori ......And the other company is actually Unity as they have it on the asset store
Javis
Nope. Can't say how I know on that score, but definitely not that. :-) It's likely to be another snake oil plot, imho of course. Either that, or Unity integration, as you're suggesting.
Contributor TimmyZDesign Posted September 29, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted September 29, 2014 ...the Foundry. They are working on a non linear animation mixer for modo 901... That sounds wonderful!
