some brushes smooth with no results?

i dont understand whats going on when i press Shift+lmb. some brushes smooth exactly as i'd expect in zbrush, some other brushes smooth and its totally unnoticeable? i'm coming from zbrush, this may be normal for 3d coat? i'm really confused. i want my brushes to smooth a LOT when i press shift lmb. whats up with this? appreciate any info.

+1 from me.

 

However the smoothing is calculated in both Voxels and Surface is really unpredictable for me. I believe it has something to do with resolution and maybe scale. I've been working in scale of 50.0 to link to Blender more easily, and many times shift-smooth as well as the smooth tool are almost useless..

 

Would love to hear if there's a workflow solution here.

Try turning on "CUDA smooth boost" (if you are using an NVIDIA graphics card with CUDA capability).

...Also smoothing is better done in surface mode because you can reduce the number of surface polygons in a specific area with the "Reduce" or "Decimate" SHIFT function, and then hit it next with the "Powerful Smoothing" function for example.
