Mac only Adobe Illustrator alternative - Affinity Designer

Just a quick note to say that I've briefly been playing around with the public beta of Affinity designer and I'm very impressed. It seems to be a good alternative to Illustrator at a fraction of the cost. Worth downloading and playing with it for Vector artwork/spline generation.

Looks like it will be around $50 when it's finally released...

Mac only I'm afraid.

It says PSD import, can it import Photoshop shape layers with Photoshop styles (like Stroke & Gradient Overlay) convert that to vector information on import, and then export this as SVG? If so, i'll get it right away. There is a Photoshop plugin product SVGHero that does this but it only works with CC and not CS6.

Also can you fully turn off all Cloud features in this app? Thx!

Hi popwfx

To be honest, I don't know. I haven't played with it that much yet (I only downloaded it yesterday). It's in the public Beta stage - not released commercially for a month or so. The Beta is free to download and fully functioning so have a play and see what you think.

Cheers

PS, They are going to release Photoshop and Indesign alternatives over the next year or so. If those are as good as Affinity Designer, they're going to give Adobe CC a run for their money.

the interface looks MUCH better than draw plus. im on windows so i was looking for illustrator alternatives, but draw plus looks like a hobby software, while this one looks like its targeted at proffessionals with a universal format across apps.

I really hope they port this to windows eventually. Or upgrade their draw plus line to be less "1995 vector app." =)

Just came back from checking Affinity Designer in their web site, looks slick.

They're working on Affinity Photo as well apparently ( Like you mentioned ).

You know what's next :) when's the Windows versions coming and it will be interesting to see the price after the free Beta.
