Member Onkelpoe Posted August 17, 2014 Member Report Share Posted August 17, 2014 Hello, normally, I would set a low poly mesh active, mark all verts and then push them/move them along their normals to get a cage for baking. How do I create such a cage in 3dc ? Kind regards
Contributor Malo Posted August 18, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted August 18, 2014 The cage gets created automaticly if you merge into the paint room. You could choose inner and outer shell distance and for tricky areas extra hotspots. Take a look at this http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15233
Member Onkelpoe Posted August 18, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted August 18, 2014 (edited) thanks for the info! But I´d like to bake my maps in another app - not in 3DC... So I need to export a "real cage mesh" as fbx or obj, dae, .... So is there another option instead of going the "App-link way"? Cheers! Carlosan
Do you ask about this feature request ? Low Resolution cage on top of the voxel sculpt to make up for stepping up and down the sculpts resolutions like in ZBrush. If yes fell free to add a +1 at Mantis And a vote at our Trello site https://trello.com/b/vniMPy5o/3d-coat-roadmap
Member Onkelpoe Posted August 18, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted August 18, 2014 (edited) Nope, I meant another kind of cage: Please see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGszEIT4Kww 16:00-17:00 This explains it 100% thanks for your good support, Carlosan! Carlosan
That video ?lol, is a must see blockbuster Normal Extrude help ?
Member Onkelpoe Posted August 18, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted August 18, 2014 (edited) Aahhhhh - so a "Normal Extrude" in 3DC equals a "move along normals" in Maya and a "sculpt/push" in Modo Now I can try to build a nice cage for exporting as a mesh. Will check it, soon - but I think, that´s it! Hehehehe - you know the video?! Thanks again! Edited August 18, 2014 by Onkelpoe
Member Onkelpoe Posted August 18, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted August 18, 2014 Hmmm, would it be possible to add the "extrude along normal" to the Voxel-room (surface-mode), also? At the moment I could not tell 100%, if it will be the right function, that I am looking for ....
Carlosan
RMB over the layer Extrude helps ?
Member Onkelpoe Posted August 18, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted August 18, 2014 Normally, I got a "test-cube" (3x3x3 Segments) and then I select all verts and got "move along normal" or "push" - and then the cube get more and more streched and deformed , the further I move the verts away from their starting position.... hard to explain, hmmm... In 3DC, by "definition" "Normal extrude" should do the same - but the objects are not "deforming", when pushing them far out.... I guess they should expand and contract, but do not. The function does only work in "polygon/faces" mode - not in edge or vertex. If it would work in "vertex" selection, then I could tell for sure. When I RMB on the Voxel-layer, I got no "Extrude" function.... what am I doing wrong, here?

Member Onkelpoe Posted August 25, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) The problem is, I can not export anymore... got 3DC installed some time ago (was not aware of 30day-export-limits) and could free up some time last week - but too late, 30 day trial is over. But I´ll check, if your suggestion would help me. thanks! Edited August 25, 2014 by Onkelpoe
