Who uses Google hangout?

I recently started to use Google hangout, not for the webcam as it takes a lot of bandwidth but to share screens... I normally use Skype for that but it only allows you to share your screen with one person using the non-subscription version.   Hangout allows up to 10 people...

Anyway Google hangout could be a great way of several users getting together to share tips, learn more about the software, answer some questions etc...

If interested post a reply here...

I use it regularly, daily really, to keep in touch with family, friends and clients. Including screensharing.

I still use skype for some, and the screensharing video quality is usually much better than google hangouts. It does have some drawbacks, such as it is quite GPU intensive and if running 3DC at the same time (or really any other GPU intensive applications) it can cause some slown down and other weird issues. This is where hangouts does a little better.

Anyway, I think it's a good idea to have some kind of reguarly schedules hangout for people to just join up, ask questions and generally chat about 3DC and stuff. :)

I'd be interested in watching as I'm not that great. :)

Later I might have enough confidence with 3Dc to sculpt away live, but not at first. I use hangouts sometimes for the 2D art that I do already, so it's really more about my skill level than being potentially in front of the general public.

@ Ruth, this is not really a sculpting session as it is just hanging out sharing tips, answering questions, learning stuff and generally just enjoying the company of other 3DC users...

OK David, we had some fun via google hangout.

For sculpting sessions it is great.

A dual display setup then. It is important for sculpting sessions.

Indeed I noticed this. Just a little better. Right.

Yes David, I use Google hangout, alongside Skype... but like you say, Skype are getting clever with their video sharing. A little tip to get around the annoying 'you need to upgrade' pop-ups is to stop your video stream first and then go to 'share screens'.

A seven hours distance.

How to enjoy a beer and a cigar with your friend…

To have some beers at 4:00 in the morning isn't too wise.

I'll see what I can do about it. LOL :drinks:

I aways use hangouts and i love the screen share.   paint, modeling and sculpt or just chat with friends.

It is possible to create persistent rooms with a lot of people in hangouts and have a chat text and the possibility of video hangouts (for screen sharing) at anytime.

To create a persistent room, just start a hangout with someone, after that you just need to invite more people.  You can chante the hangouts name and it will be listed there forever, until the person leaves the room (a new invite must be sent if the person wants to join again)

Notifications can be configured, can be turned off or paused for a period of time that you set.

this way, those who can not attend, just need to pause the notifications.

this is good for those who have hangouts app in smartphone/tablet, can temporarily pause the notifications while working or sleeping.

So no one need to leave the room because of the notifications, just need to pause or turn it off

There are also a "desktop" version using the chrome extension  https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hangouts/nckgahadagoaajjgafhacjanaoiihapd?hl=pt-BR

by the way... 3D Coat needs a google+ community like the zbrush https://plus.google.com/communities/108556938069525001552
