Retopo questions: rectangle selection, vertex delete, collapse to middle

Hi 3D coat community,

I'm learning the program and have run into a number of problems.

- How can I make a rectangular selection (to easily select large and precise parts of the retopo model)? It's usually a click and drag affair, but not in 3Dcoat.

- How can I delete a single vertex (in the select mode)? Delete or Ctrl do nothing. I'd rather not merge vertices, creating unwanted triangles, I want to delete them.

- How can I collapse two (or more) vertices together? (it's like merging, but instead of being merged on one vertex, it is merged at the average point between the two vertices)

Thank you,

Hi! Welcome. :)

1) Rectangle Lasso is in the Stroke Mode panel, which is near the top left of the UI, just above the Tool panel. Here's the manual on that: http://3d-coat.com/manual/general/321-strokemodes/

2) Deletion can be done in the Retopo Room. Use the Select tool, change to Vertex Mode on the top bar, select the vertex and hit the DEL key. That should work for you.

3) It shouldn't be merging on an average. Could you record a short video for me on this? Could be a bug. For what it's worth, the snapping radius is controls by the brush radius. This can help when you have a lot of vertices in a small area.

Also, could you let us know which build you're using and your OS? Thanks.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the answers. I am only in the retopo room.

1. I'll try that next time I'm at the office!

2. Selecting faces and edges (with the top bar then clicking on the model) then pressing DEL works, but I was unable to do so with vertices. If I am in Face or edge selection, I have a delete button on the left window, which does the same thing as DEL. In vertices mode, I do not even have a Delete button on the left window (under the tools). Thus, it's not a keyboard shortcut isuue, since the menu removes the Delete option entirely in Vertex mode.

3. Sorry, my post wasn't clear enough. It is not merging on average, it is merging on the vertex I drag the other vertex on, all as intended. I was wondering if there is a way to merge two vertices at their average position (sometimes known as Collapse), as this is useful in different circustanges than a Merge.

Number 2 suspiciously looks like a bug, but the rest should be fine.

Have a good day!
