How Big an Area to Solar Power the World?

Cool, but I've read that a space-based solar panel can gather five times more energy than those located on the surface. We're already capable of launching panels into space, but the problem is with energy transmission to the surface which is still under research. But I bet this will be resolved very soon.

I remember this particular article on Cracked.com. It's a comedy site allright, but they do some research before writing their articles. The article said that if humanity wasn't pumping so much cash into consumers' market (be it worthless physical products you can buy in TV shops, franchise bullshit or social networks) or military and had put that money into serious research instead, we'd have already colonised Mars and be decades ahead from the point we're at the moment. But oh well... Go humanity!

Vide solar roads. Do note that manufacture of solar panels have a huge negative impact on the environment. Also, pavements and roads get dirty very fast which would result in deterioration of solar panels efficiency unless they're cleaned regularly (which of course consumes energy).

There's also a factor of solar panels being the most effective when directly facing the sun... etc.

That way when the other parts of the world are back to riding horses, I can keep my fancy Cadillac car. B)

LOL.I don't have any "fracking" problem with that :D Why give up living like a human being here, just to go to a dead planet like mars and live like a lab rat?
